How much are you willing to pay for Blu-Ray?

Looking at the SRP for the recently announced Monsters Inc. Blu-Ray, does anyone agree $40 is just too much? I mean, seriously, Disney movies were already overpriced to begin with, but this is just stupid.

Well, $40 is just about regular priced Blu-Ray in Sweden...

It is high, but then I rarely ever pay the full price. Buying it in the first week usually guarantees it's on sale at Best Buy and then there's always Amazon (where I see that it is selling for $28.49).

I pretty much buy all of my Blu-rays from Amazon.  $28.49 is about the highest I would pay for a single movie though.  Most of the new releases run between $22.99 and $27.99, with a lot of the catalog titles released at $19.99 on Amazon.

$40 is way too much.  I think the most I've paid is around $25 for a new release from Amazon, but most of the time I wait for them go on sale for around $15-$20.

In general, my limit for catalog titles is $15 and for new releases I like to keep it as close to $20 as possible, going as high as $25. There are some exceptions (mainly for 2-disc sets or titles I really want) but I generally don't think Blu-ray is worth as much of a premium over DVD as some studios charge. And that $15 for catalogs is becoming lower than that. There were some catalog titles during DeepDiscount.com's 25% sale last month that would have ended up being about $13.50 that I didn't buy becauase even that was more than I wanted to spend for them. I thnk I'm going to be waiting for $10 sales on a lot of catalog titles now.

I'd love to get Sin City, for example, but I've never seen it for less than about $23. I'll buy it when I can find it for $20 (which is still high for a  catalog title IMO) but not more than that.

I just recently purchased a Blu Ray player when I got my PS3. I was really excited about it because I saw Nightmare Before Christmas on Blu Ray awhile back and loved it. But now that I own one of my own I will not buy anything cuz they are too expensive. I go to Best Buy alot and they have tons of BRs for 14.99 or less but nothing Im willing to double dip on. I double dipped on the National Treasure movies for the special feature but thats it so far. I do buy some movies at Blockbuster in the previously used section cuz they are two for $25 and they are newer titles. That Im ok with but I wouldn't even spend $15 bucks on most catalog movies that I already own on standard def.

Some exceptions of course. I will double dip on the Harry Potter series once all eight movies have been released and they get some additional special features. Also LOTR movies once we get the extended editions. And a personal favorite, The Karate Kid and KK2.

I have a very hard time putting more than $25 out for a blu-ray.

As Far as Up and Monsters INC (which I will getting both of those plus Modern Warfare 2 on 11/10/09), I wish they would have a 2 disc and a 4 disc version.  Personally, I don't have an ipod or mp3 player so a digital copy to me is useless, and including a DVD version?  Really?  Which reminds me, I am going to go put the DVD copy of the Diamond Edition Snow White I got on eBay right now..

I've been very annoyed how the prices for new A list movies (and many that barely reach B list) have risen over the last year at least in the UK and that's after a 2.5% cut in VAT (sales tax).

This time last year I was ordering Wall-E, Dark Knight and quite a few others for well under £15 each (many two for £xx deals as well) while this year the big releases such as Trek, Transformers2, Salvation and Potter are £16.99 upwards with no deals.
The reduction in prices for good ol' DVD makes Blu look even more expensive which doesn't seem the way to build a market.

On the upside I'm saving a ton of money by not buying the movies on the day of releasesmile

I really hate the price of TV Shows on Blu-Ray. Like the recently announced Stargate Universe Season 1.0. They're charging full season price for ONLY 9 EPISODES! It's stupid.

I love the new addition to the SG franchise but I'm against the splitting up of the season for maximising DVD/Blu revenues so I won't be buying and second to that such a long break between the two halves of the season is not a good idea.

On new releases $20, on catalog titles $15.  No more than that.
