My Home Theater Setup
Since I'm going to be doing the Blu-Review of the Week, I figured that you needed to know my setup so that you can see what I'm judging off of. Here we go...
Television: Sony KDS-R70XBR2
Being that the TV is 70", I can really see the flaws in a picture. However, the really good transfers look absolutely amazing. Also, being Sony's last large SXRD rear projection and not an LCD or Plasma, some issues like aliasing and compression artifacts are smoothed out a bit, so I may not be seeing some of those flaws.
Receiver: Pioneer VSX-84TXSi
I love this receiver, however it is a bit outdated as it does not have support for Dolby True HD and DTS-HD. It does do a great job of upconverting every input (even analog composite) to HDMI 1080P output to my television. If you are in the market for a new receiver, I would highly suggest looking at Pioneer.
Speakers: Bose Acoustimass 15 II
Some people love Bose, some people hate Bose. I find myself somewhere in the middle. They are excellent for size and sound clarity, but a bit lacking in overall dynamic range. Still, I am very happy with the sound, and I don't feel the need to upgrade anytime soon.
Blu-ray Player: Sony Playstation 3
I'll argue with anyone until I'm blu in the face that the PS3 is the best Blu-ray player on the market. With its' built in Wi-Fi, it makes it easy to make software updates and this player was built to last. I seriously believe that Sony built this machine as a Blu-ray player first, and a game machine a distant second. If you are in the market to buy a player, there is no need to look any further. TRUST ME!
And now....on with the show! I would be glad to take requests on what you would like reviewed. My plan is to keep reviewing the most current releases, but I may throw in an older disc from time to time. I would appreciate any feedback you provide...good and bad (I can take it). My goal is to seriously help you make a decision on discs that you may be on the fence about, and to help you build the best Blu-ray collection on your block. Enjoy!!
